Though talking about favorites, the band agrees on Big Bend as a great place to perform.
“The Gage Hotel is our favorite place to play when we’re there,” Smith added.
“Our second we’ve played is Archer City,” Smith said. “The Royal Theater.”
“That’s where they filmed the ‘Last Picture Show,’” he added, referring to the iconic black-and-white, coming-of-age movie released in 1971 that garnered eight Academy Award nominations. It’s based on the novel by Archer City native Larry McMurtry.
When it comes to local gigs, Chubby Knuckle Choir likes to play for their friends at The Loose Screw Craft Beer House & Garden at Old Taylor High in Taylor, “where all of our friends can hang out.” King said.
The band’s current lineup has released an EP, a couple of singles and a full album. There have been seven albums to debut, counting those cut with former members.
“I’ve been wanting to get to 10,” Smith said, “I don’t know why 10 is a magic number for me, it always has been.”
The Chubby Knuckle Choir will play at the free Music in the Park, 7:30 p.m. May 12 in Veterans’ Memorial Park, 109 Depot St. in Elgin.
