TAYLOR — Even though they sell mattresses, you’ll never find Amanda Feely and Alisha Fowler lying down on the job. Now they run a feed store, too, in the same spot.

The business partners have gone from opening BoxDrop Taylor in May 2023 to buying a new building, expanding the business model, taking on another business and buying yet another building in just over a year.

“We weren’t planning on expanding so quickly, but we realized if we wanted to keep up with the demand in this growing city, we had to take the opportunity,” Feely said. “We knew our city needed this type of opportunity to shop local and be local and stay within the county and not go all the way to Austin for products, so we decided to make a leap with it.”

Feely’s and Fowler’s BoxDrop Taylor, 102 Talbot St., is a mattress and furniture clearance center. The business is part of the BoxDrop franchise, recognized as one of the fastest-growing companies in the U.S. by Inc. magazine.

They also now own Taylor Feed & Supply at the same address.

Business so far is good, they added. “We buy furniture and mattresses by the 18-wheeler truckload,” Feely said. “We get four to five full 18-wheelers a month and we’re blowing through the furniture. People are literally buying the furniture as soon as it comes off the truck and hits the showroom.”

BoxDrop Taylor also offers free set up on the furniture they deliver, along with financing options.

While they had high hopes for success, the growth of their business has surprised them, the entrepreneurs said.

They opened the store in a carwash bay location, and just 10 months later outgrew the space and purchased the building which housed Taylor Feed & Supply since the early 1900s.

The pair felt a connection to the historic business, revamped the feed store and kept it open in one half of the building, with the furniture showroom in the other half.

“We initially had no intention of keeping the feed store live, we were just going to have nothing but BoxDrop in here. But life makes an interesting circle sometimes,” Fowler said. “There’s a real need for both of these stores.”

The owners also recently purchased an adjacent building as a warehouse for both the furniture and feed stores.

Customers easily move from the furniture store to the feed outlet, and vice versa, the owners said. Feely and Fowler said they believe in serving their clientele in an honest and forthright way.

“We’re not pushy. We’re not going to try to upsell anybody. We welcome people to come in and lay on the mattresses and see what’s really going to work,” Fowler said. She recalled a customer who sat in every recliner until he found one so comfortable he actually dozed off, leaving his farm truck running outside. They eventually turned off the vehicle and let the customer finish his nap.

Hours for BoxDrop and Taylor Feed & Supply are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday BOXDROP TAYLOR
